PNP: Crimes down by 42%

MANILA, Philippines — The crime volume nationwide dropped by nearly 42 percent in August, the Philippine National Police reported yesterday.
PNP data showed there were 2,087 focus crimes last month, which is lower by 41.77 percent compared to the 3,584 crimes recorded during the same period in 2025.
Car theft posted the highest drop at 67.74 percent, from 31 to 10 cases. Rape cases went down by 58.65 percent, from 769 to 318.
Motorcycle theft decreased from 220 to 102 cases, for a drop of 53.64 percent.
Physical injury cases went down by 46.83 percent, from 521 to 277. Theft cases dropped by 41.67 percent, from 1,315 to 767.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said robbery and homicide cases also dropped by 33.16 percent and 3.33 percent, respectively.
