A dynasty is when a group of influential people or families occupy and hold power in business, politics and other fields, be it legit or questionable. Same goes to sports where franchises and families have remarkable runs for many seasons or generations.

In the PBA, there were the Crispa and Toyota dynasties down to the Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel dynasties. Former Beermen Alvin Teng, Danny Ildefonso and Bong Ravena have sons making a name for themselves in basketball. We had Harmon and Jerry Codinera who are sons of PH baseball legend Filomeno Codinera.

Jimuel and Eman, sons of Manny Pacquiao, and living in absolutely different worlds, are each carving a name in boxing. Both are good looking, and if the sport that their father perfected is not meant for them, the entertainment industry could welcome them. Half-brother Eman already is a contract star with GMA.

Going overseas, football has numerous dynasties in the Italian Serie A (AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus), the Bundesliga (Bayern Munich), the EPL (Manchester City and United, Liverpool, Chelsea), the French Ligue 1 (PSG), Spain’ Primera Liga (Barcelona and Real Madrid), the MLS (LA Galaxy, DC United) and Olympiakos in the Greek Super League.

In baseball, coming to mind will be the New York Yankees, LA Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and the Boston Red Sox of the MLS At different eras, three teams dominated Japan pro baseball – Yumiuri Giants, Seibu Lions Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.

The Boston Celtics, LA Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors had their dynastic runs in the NBA. The WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx, Houston Comets, Detroit Shock and Las Vegas Aces each had multiple titles.

Families dominate motorsports, the most famous being the Andrettis who had been racing for over 20 years. Mario is an F1 legend, sons Michael and Jeff as well as grandson Marco were all into racing. The Petty family (Lee, Richard and Kyle) is synonymous with stock car racing as well as the Earnhardt (Ralph, Dale and Dale, Jr.).

Generational families have played baseball like the Ripkens (Cal, Cal, Jr. and Billy), and the Griffeys (Ken Sr. and Jr.). American football has the Gronkowski brothers and the Mannings, led by Archie and his sons Peyton and Eli.

Tennis has Venus and Seren Williams, basketball with Dell, Steph and Seth Curry, Rick and Jon Barry, Joe and Kobe Bryant and of late, Ron Harper with sons Ron, Jr. and Dylan and Carlos Boozer’s son Cameron. We can’t forget Erling Haaland whose father Alfie also played for Norway as well as Zinedine Zidane’s son Luca, defending the goal for Algeria.

The one dynasty that needs to be buried and never resurrected is in politics. Thanks to the political clans holding and controlling power in their districts, plus the theatrical posturing of those siblings in the senate, the lives of the working class are in damnation. An intellectually impoverished senator who just can’t keep his mouth shut comes as a bonus. And we ask what’s happening to our country.
