Jugan secures U12 crown in Alegado Summer League

CEBU, Philippines — The aspiring cagers of Barangay Jugan dominated their rivals from Pulpogan, 101-74, in a lopsided battle of champions to grab the 12 Under crown of the 1st Mayor Alegado Developmental Summer League in the municipality of Consolacion in northern Cebu.
Kane Travis Rivera exploded for 38 points with five rebounds and three assists for Jugan to become the hands down choice as Finals Most Valuable Player.
Rivera was doubly happy as he was also honored as season MVP. He was joined in the Mythical Five by his teammate Jenoel Niño Nuñez, Jeian Gail Chavez of Casili, Ranz Ethan Compañado of Pulpogan, and Jeno Limana of Garing.
Nuñez added 15 points, three rebounds and as many assists while John Vincent Carabayas chipped in 14 points, two rebounds and one assist for Jugan, which seized command early and never looked back after getting off to an explosive 36-13 start.
Pulpogan could only pull within 13 points, 61-74, after three quarters as Jugan closed the match with a 27-13 blast resulting in a decisive 27-point victory.
Ranz Ethan Compañiado paced Pulpogan with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. Aljur Bontilao and James Tudtud combined for 17 points, five reBounds and four assists in a losing cause.
Aside from the U12, the summer league also features the 15 Under and 17 Under age groups.
Project director coach Paul Alelu Flores said they will identify potential players that will form part of their developmental training pool across three categories.
Those selected will be trained by homegrown coaches in the hope of putting up competitive teams that will represent the town in future tournaments.
“Hopefully they will be scouted by different school-based coaches and get a chance to play in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) and other big leagues someday, which is really our main goal,” said Flores.
