Cebu crushes Bataan for third win in MPBL

CEBU, Philippines —  Mark Meneses exploded  for 31 points as the Cebu Greats outclassed the 1Bataan Risers Camaya Coast, 91-84, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season 8 on Saturday night, May 2, at the FilOil Ecooil Centre in San Juan City.

Meneses also had 10 rebounds in a stellar double-double show laced with four assists while Brian Heruela filled the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Greats improved their record to 3-2.

Cebu was all business from the get go and blitzed to a commanding 27-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play, which they stretched to 48-26 at halftime.

Bataan did chisel away the deficit but could only come close at five points, 84-89, as time wasn’t on their side with only six seconds left to play.

Cebu will next face the Imus Yankee on Friday, May 8, at the Imus Sports Complex in Cavite.

In the other results, the San Juan Knights ended the historic 38-game winning streak of the defending champions Abra Solid North Weavers, 66-58, while the Mindoro Tamaraws prolonged the misery of Parañaque Patriots via a 119-71 annihilation. –
