UV, CIT-U in KO duel for CESAFI U15 crown

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The defending champions University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Baby Wildcats will settle their unfinished business once and for all in the deciding Game 3 of the Under 15 Finals of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 25 basketball tournament today (Tuesday, February 10) at the Cebu Coliseum.

Tip-off for the sudden-death match is set at 6 p.m.

The Baby Wildcats drew first blood with a wire-to-wire 59-45 win in the series opener last Saturday, February 7.

But the Baby Lancers lived to fight for another day with a surprise 70-44 demolition of the previously unbeaten CIT-U side in Game 2 the following day.

In sharp contrast to their previous two meetings won by the Baby Wildcats, the Baby Lancers were dominant this time and on one occasion surged ahead by as much as 29 points, 70-41.

“I hope madala namo ang among momentum ngadto sa Game 3. Kahibawo ko nga ang CIT-U mohimo gyud na sila og mga adjustments pero amo na pangandaman,” said Baby Lancers head coach Ronald Bucao.

Going into the do or die game tonight, the Baby Lancers hope to have a date with history as the first back-to-back champions in the U15 age group.

As they go for all the marbles, the Baby Lancers must brace for a daring fightback from the Baby Wildcats, who are itching to end their 17-year title drought in Cebu’s premier inter-school athletic league.

With both teams on a mission, fans could expect a dogfight.
