Mayor Alegado Cup gets underway today

CEBU, Philippines — The 15th edition of the annual Mayor Alegado Cup will kick off today (Saturday, September 6) in Consolacion, Cebu.

The grand opening ceremony starts with the traditional parade of athletes from various sporting disciplines at 1 p.m.

It will be followed by by a formal program to be graced by Consolacion Mayor Terese “Nene” Alegado, vice mayor Joannes “Joyjoy” Alegado, ABC President Wesley Alimoren, and SK Federation President Shella Carpina.

Cebu Sixth District Rep. Daphne Lagon is the guest of honor.

Aside from the presentation of candidates for Miss Consolacion 2025, the selection of best muse, best in uniform, and most organized barangay will also spice up the event.

The main attraction though are the exhibition games featuring teams from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI).

At 6 p.m., the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles will take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers.

Afterwhich, the USPF Panthers will clash with the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons in a collegiate matchup at 7:30 p.m.

In the nightcap, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers will tackle the Konsehal Napuli commercial team at 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, at least 15 sports will be contested in the month-long tilt that is among the highlights of Consolacion’s fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso on October 29.

These are basketball, volleyball (regular and dayon-dayon), badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, chess, dama, karatedo, boxing, taekwondo, 4x4 off-road challenge, motocross, billiards, sepak takraw, football, and longboard.
