Pacuribot, Codinera dominate August edition of CEPCA monthly

CEBU, Philippines — Joel Pacuribot and Arena Grandmaster Kevin Codinera topped the August edition of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) monthly tournament at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Pacuribot and Arena International Master Dennis Navales were actually tied with identical 5.0 points but Pacuribot went on to grab the Class A title courtesy of his higher tiebreak output.

Eden Diano settled for third place with 4.0 points.

In Class B, Codinera bagged the crown with 4.5 points.

Edwin Cablao finished second with 4.0 points while Nicanor Cuizon wound up third with 3.5 points.

Aside from cash prizes, Pacuribot and Codinera also secured berths to the grand finals dubbed as “CEPCA Battle of Champions” this December.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Angot was the best female player with 2.5 points while Theon Cade Miranda was the top performer in the 12 Under age group with 2.0 points.
