Llover in make or break fight vs two-division world champ

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Judgment day beckons for Kenneth “The Lover Boy” Llover as the unbeaten bantamweight trades blows with former two-division world champion Luis “El Nica” Concepcion of Panama in the main event of “Mano a Mano:Philippines vs Panama” fight card of Gerrypens Promotions today (Sunday, August 17) at Winford Resort and Casino in Manila.

Gates open at 3 p.m. for the slam-bang show.

No title is at stake but the scheduled 10-round rumble is of utmost importance for Llover as a victory will surely cement his status as one of the world’s best fighters in the 118-pound weight class.

A loss, on the other hand, will jeopardize his world title dreams.

With that, the pride of General Trias, Cavite is hard-pressed to hurdle what is by far the toughest test in his budding career.

Carrying a perfect 14-0 record with 9KOs, Llover holds a lot of promise.

He is coming off back-to-back wins via first-round knockout, the first was against Japanese Tulio Dekanarudo that earned him the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF)crown on December 15, 2024 at the Sumiyoshi Sports Center in Osaka, Japan.

Llover also once held the WBO Asia Pacific Youth and the WBC Asian Continental belts.

Though heavily favored fighting at his home turf, the 22-year-old Llover is expected to face a tall order against the more experienced Concepcion, who once reigned as WBA flyweight and super flyweight champion.

By the numbers, Concepcion is impressive with his 40-11 win-loss mark spiked with 29KOs.

But the Panamanian visitor lost three of his last four bouts and is coming out of a two-year hiatus, something that Llover can capitalize on.
