Meralco guns for first PBA crown tonight

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Meralco Bolts are eyeing for their first PBA championship as they take on San Miguel Beer in Game 6 of the best-of-seven PBA Season 48 Philippines Cup finals today (Sunday, June 16) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Game time is set at 6:15 p.m.

Energized by Allein Maliksi and Chris Newsome, the Bolts moved on the brink of a historic crown after they tamed the Beermen in Game 5, 92-88, last Friday night.

Maliksi and Newsome fired 22 points each as the Bolts took a 3-2 series lead, needing only one more win to reach a franchise milestone.

If they succeed in finishing off the Beermen, the Bolts will ascend on the PBA throne for the very first time.

Prior to their showdown with the Beermen, the Bolts have had advanced to the Governor’s Cup finals four times already since becoming part of Asia’s first pro league in 2010.

But they lost all at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.

Now is their golden chance to end their 14-year title drought.
