CEBU, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City surged on top of the table with 25 medals broken down into 17 golds, seven silvers, and a bronze after three days of grueling action in the 2024 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet in different venues here.

Perennial champion Cebu City is running at second place with 11 gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze medals, with   Dumaguete City at close third with a 10-12-10 tally.

Lapu-Lapu mined 14 golds from arnis courtesy of Troy Nathanial Abiang, Shamler Augusto, Kent Icot, Avegaile Alpanta, Nicollete Ybañez, Jeanalyn Ycoy, Kurt Limbaga, Paulo Ortiz, Kate Solis, Troy Nathaniel Abing, Athena Kate Sapio, Jayn Paller, Mike Jorie Israel, and Amber Joy Notarte.

The Oponganon tracksters also made their presence felt with Asia Paraase cruishing to a golden double in the secondary girls 1,500 and 3,000-meter run.

Mary Heart Igot produced Lapu-Lapu’s other gold in athletics event via long jump.

Host Cebu City, on the other hand, hauled a bunch of golds from arnis behind the effforts of Rolly Ramjohn Barcelon, Josh Francis Auditor, Hannah Marie De la Cerna, John Earl Tapic, John Earl, and Hubert Tapic.

In gymnastics, the Niños came up with a golden treble from Enzo Dano, Chloe Clarita Cassidy Barasan, and Khiara Shasmyka Gabriel.

Angelo Roca, for his part, handed Cebu City’s first gold in wushu.

Cebu City also pocketed seven silvers and seven bronzes in arnis, three silvers and three bronzes in wushu, a silver and bronze in swimming, a silver in athletics, and a bronze in aero gymnastics.

On the other hand, Dumagute City clinched four golds in arnis, three in swimming and two from archery.

Making up the temporary Top 10 in the medal standings are Bohol Province with a 10-9-10 gold-silver-bronze haul, Mandaue City (6-10-5), Negros Oriental (6-8-6), Cebu Province (4-4-14), Tagbilaran City (4-4-2), Bayawan City (4-2-3), and Carcar City (2-0-2). — (FREEMAN)
