Madridejos Knights to hold chess tourney for a cause

CEBU, Philippines — The Madridejos Knights Chess Club (MKCC) headed by their Texas, USA-based playing team owner Engr. Josito “Jojo” Clamor will stage a fund-raising online chess tournament today (Sunday, May 5) via chess.com. Game time starts at 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds of the charity event will be donated to help defray the medical expenses of Tony Cabibil, one of MKCC’s mainstays who is suffering from a kidney ailment and is currently confined in a hospital for further treatment.

Entry fee is only P50 but those who are willing to help more may send their registration with their donation to Cabibil’s Gcash account (09519935249).

Arena FIDE Master Engr. Gilbert Anthony Ababat will shoulder the registration of the first 50 players who will join the Madridejos Knights. For membership, log on to https://www.chess.com/club/madridejos-knights-chess-club/join/6786d9

Though for a cause, the winners will still receive cash prizes.

The champion will pocket P1,200, while the second to fourth placers will get P600, P300, and P200, respectively.

Aside from Dondon and Ababat, the noble undertaking is also supported by UC-based chess patrons Grandmaster Enrico Sevillano, Woman National Master Susan Itaas, and Ismael Castillo Jose.

Dondon, a US Candidate Master and Arena International Master, Ababat, and Cabibil are part of the Madridejos Knights that are now in the finals of the Association of Chess Amateurs of the Philippines, Inc. (ACAPI) 1st President’s Cup. Their other teammate is Joseleo Cortes. — (FREEMAN)
