ASPC launches maiden Eco Color Fund Run
CEBU, Philippines — Buoyed by its ardent desire to make a difference in the community, the Academia of San Pedro Calungsod will be holding its first ever Eco Color Fund Run 2024 slated on May 12 at the ASPC campus in the City of Naga, south of Cebu.
ASPC school director Fr. Conrado “Don” Sedillo led the event’s formal launching on Wednesday, February 21, together with learner’s animator Reymar Padayao, race director Joel Juarez, and ASPC-PPA vice president Edith Obligado.
Fr. Sedillo emphasized the run’s eco-friendly focus inspired by Pope Francis’ call to preserve nature.
“We are including ‘Eco’ with this race in response to our holy father Pope Francis’ call for the preservation of our mother nature,” Fr. Sedillo said.
“It promises to be a meaningful day for sports, environmental advocacy, and community building, all in support of a noble cause,” he added.
In line with its environmental protection goal, each participant will be given a seedling to plant in a designated coastal area. This effort aims to plant mangroves, known for their crucial role in storm surge prevention, thereby contributing to the community’s resilience against natural disasters.
Meanwhile, Fr. Sedillo expressed his gratitude to mayor Val Chiong for being their first major benefactor.
Known for his strong support of the city’s sports programs, Chiong believes in the positive impact of such initiatives on the youth and the community at large.
Seeking to raise over P5 million for the construction of the school gym, the charity run is expected to draw participation from alumni, parents, students, faculty, and their families as well as stakeholders from the local government unit (LGU) and neighboring towns and cities.
Registration fee is pegged at P600 for the 3K, P700 for the 5K, and P800 for the 10K category inclusive of a race shirt, seedling for planting, finisher’s medal, and snacks.
Interested parties may register online or directly at the school campus. – EBV
