CEBU, Philippines — All four out-of-town teams grabbed the limelight on opening day of the Sinulog Cup 2024 Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, January 23, at the Cebu City Sports Institute (CCSI) gym in Barangay Sawang Calero.
First to make noise was the United Negros Basketball League (UNBL) All-Stars of Bacolod City, which stunned defending champion EGS, 74-60.
Teams from Leyte also caught the spotlight after downing their college rivals, albeit in contrasting fashion.
The OCCCI Sheermasters from Ormoc City had little trouble in crushing the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs, 97-77, while Team Khalifa of Tacloban City had to go through overtime time before fending off the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 108-99.
On the other hand, Z’Nars Jewelry from Marawi City, Lanao del Sur stole part of the show after rallying from a 64-71 deficit at the end of the third period to spoil the commercial debut of Chase Tower Runs, 93-86.
