Webmasters try to bolster top 4 bid in CESAFI hoop

CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will try to shore up their Final 4 bid when they lock up horns with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers in the 19th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Game time is set at 6:45 pm.

The Webmasters are coming off a repeat performance over the three-time defending champion University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers that fortified their hold of the solo fourth spot with a 5-3 win-loss record.

If they get past the Panthers, the Webmasters will earn a share of third place with the Lancers in the seniors division standings.

The Panthers, with a 3-7 slate, are fighting it out for survival. A loss to the Webmasters will surely extinguish their flickering semifinal hopes.

In the juniors division, the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Campus hopes to sustain the momentum of their breakthrough triumph as they take on the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Baby Cobras at 5:15 pm.

After six failed attempts, UCLM scored their historic first ever win in the CESAFI after downing their previously undefeated sister-team  UC Baby Webmasters, 69-66, last October 19.

UCLM are still at the tailend of the standings though with a 1-6 card. They are already out of contention just like the Baby Cobras, who have only two victories in eight games, so far.
