Casili grabs seniors A crown

CEBU, Philippines — Cousins Dwight and Rey Gonzaga shared the limelight as Casili swept Poblacion Oriental in their best-of-three finals anchored on a emphatic 95-88 win in Game 2 to clinch the championship in seniors category A of the 10th Mayor Alegado Cup Inter-Barangay Fiesta Basketball League on Saturday night at the Consolacion Sports Complex.

Dwight Gonzaga piled up 27 points, four assists and two rebounds while Rey Gonzaga added 18 points, five rebounds and four assists for Casili, which overcame a slow start then turned to a steady endgame showing to repulse Poblacion Oriental.

Trailing by three points early on, 22-25, Casili launched a sizzilng offensive in the second quarter, 27-19, to wrest the driver’s seat at halftime, 49-44.

Poblacion Oriental forged a 71-71 standoff after three period but Casili fought with great resolve in the closing minutes of the contest to finish off Poblacion Oriental.

Cyril Sabellana also dished out huge numbers with 15 points, six rebounds and as many assists while John Paul Cabillada chipped in 10 markers for Casili.

The Malagar brothers Larry and Lymuel connived for 41 points in Poblacion Oriental’s losing cause.

The 35-day tilt is among the highlights of Consolacion’s annual fiesta in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso on October 29.

It is strongly supported by the Consolacion LGU under the flagship of Mayor Joannes P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, SB members Aurelio Damole, Ely Palang, Brando Cuizon, Ben Ermac, Marilou Casul, Benjamin “Boy” Tibon, Victor Maglasang, Wesley Alimoren, and Alfie Ouano, and SK Federation President Carlos Donn Q. Flores.
