CEBU, Philippines — Another year, another challenge for the Metafit Tri Team.

Looking good on all range, in top condition, and most importantly armed with confidence, the Metafit Tri Team led by their founder, Cebuano fitness guru Alan G. ‘Coach A’ Choachuy, look foward to another fruitful campaign in the Regent Aguila Ironman 70.3 Philippines slated this Sunday at the posh Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.

Under the stewardship of Choachuy, the Metafit Tri racers are binded by their battlecry that is to ‘complete not compete” but through the years, eight to be exact, they have performed beyond expectations and have produced highly competitive results, with some of the even making it to the podium in their age groups.

“We really give our all-out best in every race, and hopefully beat our personal records. That is the target we have set in our minds,” said Fritz Co, who co-captains the Metafit Tri with his wife Zusette Jarina-Co.

The other members of the Metafit Tri who will be seeing action this weekend are Maui Recla, Jeff Herrera, Pimco Pimentel, Grace Herrera, Cheryl Tagra, Jodette Romaguera, GoldaGrace, Sarah Lucero, and Romulo Rosell.

Both Lucero and Tagra are first timers in the punishing Ironman race that consists of a 1.9km swim, 90k bike, and 21.1km run.

“We will just enjoy the race and have fun. As long as wee finish the race within the time limit, that’s what matters most,” said Lucero.

“The training is very tough but I’m are already into it so I have to face the challenge ahead,” butted in Tagra.

The good thing about Team Metafit this time is that they are formally launching their grassroots developmental program for kids as young as five years old in the hope of molding Ironman stars one day down the road.

Among the Metafit’s young aspiring triathletes are Zarah Fae Co, Myr, Glad Constantine, and Glad Kornelius Romaguera, Lance Kristoff Pimentel, Matt Arden Impas, Keane Lyle Pimentel, and Mabert Leigh Impas.

They will all be tested in the Alaska IronKids Philippines on Saturday still at the Shangri-La grounds.

“Though they’re all up for the competition, we don’t push them too hard in training. We simply make it more fun for them,” said coach Zusette Co on the way they nurture and sharpen the skills of their future IronKids.
