Central Visayas lifters shine in PRISAA

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Central Visayas’ weightlifters hauled medal in Day 2 of the 2019 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games yesterday at the University of Mindanao here.

Region VII collected 15 gold and nine silver medals in combined youth and seniors division.

Central Visayas swept all medals at stake in the women’s class. University of Cebu’s RJ Polan scored a treble via the 44-kilograms division after posting 50-kilograms in the snatch, 60-kilograms in the clean and jerk and a total of 110-kilograms.

Bohol’s Saine Fe Daro and RF Jacinto also had a 1-2 finish in the 48-kilograms class.

Daro beat the odds of making it to the weight limit as she snared all three gold medals in her class. Another Boholana in Jonasam Alegada was unopposed in the youth 48-kilograms 100-kilograms.

In the men’s side,  Edrian John Perez dominated the senior 56 kgs. after posting 83-kilograms in the snatch, 100-kilograms in the clean and jerk and total of 183-kilograms.

In the youth boys, UC’s Joefrey Frasco also bagged three golds in the 50-kilograms division, while teammate Christel Diamante secured two golds plus silver in the 56-kilograms division. Justin Luke Lorete also delivered one gold and one silver medal.

Over at the track oval, CV’s athletic team snared four gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Bohol’s April Joy Alampayan opened her bid with a silver via the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:08.87 while teammate Melody Perez of the University San Carlos settled for bronze in 11:09.01.

Alampayan bounced back strong as she grabbed the gold in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 20 minutes and 05 seconds while Perez settled with another bronze in 20:07.

Other gold medalists for CV are University of Southern Philippines Foundation’s Jay Ann Loaña via the 400-meter and UC’s Jan Moses Estrada with a 12.22 meters performance in in shotput.

In boxing, Shane Gentallan and Angilou Dalogdog are both sure of a bronze medal each after winning their respective classes.

Gentallan won his quarterfinal bout in the 46-49-kilograms.division against Western Visayas’ Rodel Basco while Dalogdog defeated Northern Mindanao’s Eldrin Guinahon in the 52.1-56-kilogram division both via unanimous decision.

In swimming, Charllyn Allysa Romanos got the gold for Region VII in the youth’s 100-meter breastroke in 1:20.16 while her two silvers came from the 200-meter freestyle.
