Sirlitz basketball camp gets underway March 31

CEBU, Philippines — It’s that time of the year again when aspiring hoopsters up North will have a chance to further hone their skills this summer through the 19th edition of the Sirlitz One On One Basketball Training Camp, one of the longest-running cage clinics in Cebu set to start on March 31 at the Barangay San Vicente Gym in Liloan.

Open to aspiring hoopsters aged 18 years old and below, the training session is set from 8 a.m. to 12 noon (two hours for every age-group) from Monday to Saturday.

The month-long camp will be supervised by Sirlitz training director and veteran tactician Edsel Say Vallena, who has just been appointed as head coach of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI).

Vallena, who specializes on the US and Korean scientific style of playing hoops, said that aside from the fundamentals of the sport like proper dribbling, shooting, passing and footwork, they will also be teaching their students team and individual defense, and one-on-one offensive drills.

“We’ve reached this far because we always put premium on the quality of our training. We make sure that the skills of all the participants will level up after going through our camp,”said Vallena, adding that they will be applying new training methods and dribbling techniques.

Nearing its two-decade mark, Sirlitz counts former UAAP star Paul Desiderio of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons who is now playing for the Blackwater Elite in the PBA among its brightest products.

Entry fee includes a reversible jersey. For registration and information, interested parties may contact 0906-4683775 or 0943-6068834. EBV
