Cebu City grabs lead in Batang Pinoy
CEBU, Philippines — From fourth in the overall rankings the other day, Cebu City now takes the lead with a strong surge in Day 2 of the PSC-Batang Pinoy Visayas Regional Finals here yesterday.
Defending champion Cebu City now has 18 gold, 19 silver and 20 bronze medals.
A stellar showing in the dancesport competition pushed Team Cebu City on top. TCC grabbed five golds, nine silvers and one bronze after their dancesport athlete dominated their respective divisions at the Holy Rosary Academy.
The tandem of Nigel John Angel and Shadelle Hernandez scored a double gold via the standard and American Latin’s juvenile A, while Sean Baclay and Jannah Marie Pugoy ruled the junior C. John Lloyd Leyson and Ouie Selene Rendon also topped the junior A class Standard.
Over at the Iloilo Sports Complex, Louraine Garcia nabbed the firls 400m hurdles with a time of one minute and 13.6 seconds, while teammate Kim Licayan grabbed the gold in the boys class with a time of 1.03. Kristelle Mae Leyson and Jayford Marangay both delivered bronze.
TCC also got silver and bronze in the boys’ 4x100-meter relay plus another bronze from Kevin Ebales in the 2000m walk.
Taekwondo jin Xander Palacpac added a gold to his collection after ruling in the individual battle. He also joined forces with Rebekah Gabrielle Ponte to dominate the the junior’s pairs event.
Meanwhile in karate, Mary Rose Opuran also snared the gold in the kyorugi event.TCC’s karatekas in Gian Carlo Polestico, Daniel Rey Martizano, Jisha Zyra Azur and Kim Andre Maquiling handed a gold each via the kata competition at SM City IloIlo.
Archer Aldrener Igot Jr. opened his bid with two golds in the 20 and 30-meter distance while her female counterpart, Densil Shane Dinopol got two bronze at the West Visayas State University field.
TCC’s young bets in pencak silat, Samantha Nicole Billones, Phoebe Alferez and Thea Talaugon of Don Vicente Rama MNS made it to the national finals, but their gold will not be counted in the medal standings as they did not have an opponent in their class at the Times Square ICC Gaisano.
Negros Occidental trailed Cebu City with 12 golds, four silvers and 11 bronzes, while Cebu Province is at third with 11-7-16 gold-silver-bronze medals.
