Dirt cross triathlon set in Bogo

Glorietta Lariosa - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Bogo City will play host to a dirt cross triathlon billed as 'DX3'  on May 14 starting and ending in Barangay Marangog.

The participants will be dealing with a one-kilometer swim, 20km bike and 7km run.

Aside from the elite open, the other categories to be contested are the 19-below, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-above.

Organizer Steve Maniquis of Cornerstone 8080 said they made the race a bit easier as they want to make the sport of triathlon fun again.

“What we are trying to do is to make triathlon fun again. This event is basically for beginners or those athletes who just want to have fun.  We expect people to have fun. We don’t want them to have a hard time,” said Maniquis.

Even if they are targeting the beginners, Maniquis said two elite athletes in Xterra pro Joseph Miller and Joland Olmilla of Omega Pro are expected to join the race.

Cash prizes and medals are at stake for the top performers, with the champion taking home P10, 000. The second and third placers will receive P7, 000 and P3, 000, respectively.

Entry fee is pegged at P2,800 for the individual events and P6,500 for the relay.  Entry forms are available at Vellum, Bikeology, AutoFocus, Metrohub, Infinitea, 30FME, City Hall of Bogo and Drawingboard Inc. One may also register online at www.cornerstone 8080events.com. (FREEMAN)
