CEBU, Philippines – The Magis Eagles of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu are off to Davao for the 2016 Jesuit Athletic Meet (JAM) that will be held at the Ateneo de Davao University campus. The JAM will kick off today with games running until November 8.

Fresh from their successful CESAFI seasons where they scored a triple championship, the basketball, football and girls volleyball teams lead the delegation and will face off against other Jesuit-run schools from all over the country.

Events on tap are basketball, football, volleyball, girls futsal, athletics, table tennis, chess, badminton and swimming. SHS-Ateneo will join all events except chess and badminton. The girls volleyball, girls futsal and athletics teams will be making their debut appearances in a JAM. The games will be played in both the college and high school campuses of Ateneo de Davao.

The JAM is held every two years with different Jesuit schools serving as host. Ateneo de Naga hosted the 2014 edition, while Ateneo de Zamboanga and Ateneo de Manila hosted the 2012 and 2010 legs.

Among the participating schools include host Ateneo de Davao, and its Mindanao counterparts Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan and Ateneo de Zamboanga. From the Luzon area are Ateneo de Manila, Ateneo de Naga, Xavier School (San Juan), and Culion College of Palawan. The Visayas is represented by Ateneo de Iloilo and SHS-Ateneo de Cebu. The events are played in both the collegiate and high divisions.

Ateneo de Davao Athletic Director Noli Ayo said that the JAM is not just about sports.

“The JAM is both a friendly competition and fellowship event among Jesuit schools nationwide. Among our activities are a forum for student-athletes, a conference for coaches and many inter-action activities for student-athletes and coaches. It’s really more than just sports,” he said. (FREEMAN)
