CEPCA to stage back-to-back tourneys

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) will hold back-to-back events with only two days separating each other at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

First off is the May edition of the club's monthly qualifying tournament sponsored by CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas and Jemar Engineering Services this Sunday.

A total of P10,000 is at stake for the winners, who will also earn slots to the grand finals that is also known as the "Battle of Champions" this December.

The top three finishers in group A will receive P2,000, P1,000 and P500, respectively. The top three in group B will take home P2,500, P1,500 and P1,000, while the fourth and fifth will get P500 each.

Afterwhich is the 4th VMA Power Open Chess Tournament on June 1-2.

The two-day tilt bankrolled by CEPCA Vice President Engr. Marvyne Guardiana dangles P25,000 in cash bounty to the top performers, with the champion pocketing P7,000. The second to fifth will earn P5,000, P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000. The sixth to 10th will have P500 each, while the 11th to 15th will go home with P300.

On the other hand, the top three lady and kiddie players will receive a uniform prize of P1,000, P600 and P400.

Registration fee is pegged at P100 for the kiddies and ladies and P250 for the open.
