Wu submits Valmores in HASI Grappling Challenge

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Mikhail Wu of Deftac Cebu executed a crushing toe-hold lock in the final 20 minutes to beat Overlimit BJJ’s Elmar Valmores in the main event of the first HASI Submission Grappling Challenge yesterday at the SM City-Cebu Trade Hall.

It was a see-saw battle between two of Cebu’s seasoned grapplers, but Wu had the last laugh as he sank a deep toe-hold to Valmores’ left leg, forcing the latter to tap out.

In the supporting match, veteran MMA fighter Arnel Ylanan of 90/EIGHT BJJ defeated Duane Gacasan of Deftac Cebu and Yaw-Yan ArDigma via arm-bar in the two minute mark.

Ylanan’s teammate John Dulap was also victorious as he caught Firoze Singh of Deftac Cebu with a nasty heel-hook.

Meanwhile, Niño Castro of HASI revealed that they will stage a bigger submission grappling tournament this year that will be open to all Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and mixed martial arts practitioners.

HASI is a local apparel brand specializing on MMA, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and surfing goods. (FREEMAN)
