Donayre triumphant in MMA comeback
CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano mixed martial artist Vaugh ‘Spawn’ Donayre made a triumphant return to the MMA scene via a first round technical knockout of Lucian Mocanasu of Romania in the HardKnox Fight Night 3 the other night at the Park Rotana in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Donayre did not show any signs of rust in his comeback from a one-year layoff, battering his hapless foe with a vicious ground and pound attack that forced the referee to halt the carnage at 3:27 mark of the opening session.
Mocanasu was earlier considered as a dangerous opponent for Donayre being a karate and sambo blackbelt, but his striking was neutralized as the Cebuano featherweight, who immediately took him down before unleashing a barrage of punches resulting to the fight's abrupt end.
Now based in Dubai, the former Yaw-Yan ArDigma and Deftac Cebu fighter improved his record to 8-3. More importantly, he snapped out of his three consecutive losses including a first round stoppage at the hands of Peter Davis in One Fighting Championship in October last year.
“I am now fighting overseas, but I have always made the Cebuanos as my inspiration. I am always thankful to my Deftac Cebu and Yaw-Yan ArDigma family for their continued support," said Donayre, a former Universal Reality Combat Championship standout.
Donayre hopes to sustain his momentum as he is booked for another fight underneath the 'Desert Force' MMA card on January 25 next year also in Abu Dhabi. (FREEMAN)
