Cebuana is fastest woman

CEBU, Philippines – Samantha Limos delivered Team Cebu City's first gold in athletics in record-breaking fashion during the 2015 Philippine National Youth Games-Batang Pinoy Championships at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.

Making her bebut in the annual tilt spearheaded by the Philippine Sports Commission, Limos caught everyone by surprise after she topped in the girls 100m run.

The youthful sprinter from Labangon clocked in 12.48 seconds, shaving off  by fifth-tenths of a second the previous mark of 12.53 set by Karen Janario in last year's Batang Pinoy.

Mary Joy Loberanis, Juvan Jane Baculot and Elyza Mae Salinas added glitter to TCC's bid at the track. Loberanis won silver in the 1,500m run, Salinas got silver in the100m hurdles, while Baculot snatched bronze in high jump.

On the other hand,  Sam Gilbert Rodrigo of  Daanbantayan is Cebu Province's first gold medallist in athletics via the 100m hurdles with the time of 16.19 seconds.

In swimming, Cebu Province placed second overall with seven golds and one  bronze.

The Talisay City-native Raven Faith Alcoseba owned five of CP’s golds. She capped her campaign with another meet record in the 200m individual medley with the time of 2:31.04 clocking. That made her won the best swimmer award in the women's division.

The other two CP golds came from Rian Marco Tirol, who grabbed his second gilt in the 100m breast stroke.

Quezon City dominated swimming with a total of 26 golds, 17 silvers and seven bronzes.

In rugby football, Team Cebu City settled for silver medals after losing to Davao ,3-2, and Muntinlupa, 4-1, in the boys and and girls finals, respectively.

In taekwondo played at the Cebu City Sports Institute, TCC got two of the four golds at stake in poomsae event behind the efforts of Aidaine Laxa in the individual poomsae and Cheyena de la Fuente and Johan Concepcion in the mixed pair competition.

Over in Danao City, Team Cebu City got a double silver in duathlon through the efforts of Yuan Chiongbian and Catherine Angeli Yu.

In Mandaue City, TCC’s weightlifters Fernando Agad Jr. and Christnel Diamante had a 2-3 finish in the 34 kgs. division won by Bohol's Justin Luke Lorete. (FREEMAN)
