Barandog-Reyes duo rules 15th Island Tee

CEBU, Philippines - The tandem of Pio Barandog and junior golfer Scott Reyes bagged the top honors in the 15th Island Tee played at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City last weekend.

Aside from winning the top team honors, Barandog also bagged the individual net title of the tournament while another junior golfer, Russell Bautista bagged the individual gross crown.

Barandog fired rounds of 40 and 42 in Modified Stableford Scoring System while Reyes turned in identical rounds of 34 for a team total of 150 points to claim the overall title of the two-man team event, which is the signature tournament of MIGC.

Barandog’s spectacular performance earned him the lowest net award while Bautista, fired rounds of 36 and 40 points to claim the lowest gross honors.

The Class A title went to the pair of Jufil Sato (29-37) and ex-pro Mark Dy (36-38) with a two-day aggregate of 140 points.

Runner-up honors for the premiere handicap class went to the team of Col. Gerry Catindoy (38-34) and Joel Yamyamin (29-38) with a total of 139.

Police C/Supt Eddie Benigay (39-38) and Alex Yeo (31-30) ruled class B with a total of 138 points.  Runner-up honors went to the tandem of Manolito Basmayor (42-28) and Iligan’s Pal Lomondaya (32-33) with 135 points.

The father and son duo of Jun and Daniel Yap topped class C with a total of 142 points.  Jun fired rounds of 34 and 41 while Daniel made 30 and 37.  Runner-up honors went to Ben Ngujo (38-34) and Richard Buscaino (34-29) with 135 points.

Cho Kwang Sup (36-35) and Ormoc’s Donnie Suico (30-26) combined for 127 points to top the seniors’ division.  Runner-up honors went to Dr. Sim Guinocor (32-28) and Hawaii’s Ed Jones (29-34) with 123 points.

The ladies division crown went to junior golfers Angela Mangana (29-36) and Junia Gabasa (33-29) with a total of 127 points.  Runner-up honors went to Vergie Lou Hwang (32-28) and Dumaguete’s Tess Magazenni (30-30) with 120 points.

A special award for best in uniform went to the husband and wife tandem of Joey Rhea Guaves, who wore matching outfits for two rounds.
