CEBU, Philippines – The University of Cebu holds on to the lead after raking eight more golds during the penultimate day of the 25th Cebu City Olympics yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

UC now has 34 golds, 27 silvers and 18 bronze medals to stay on the top of the standing heading to the final day of the competition.

But UC could not afford to be complacent as University of San Carlos is slowly catching up with 25 golds, 26 silvers and 18 bronze medals.

UC's had a golden assault in athletics with six golds plus 10 silvers. Samantha Gem Limas was the fastest in the 200m run with 26:29 clocking, while John Marvin Rafols reigned supreme in the long jump as UC also won the gold in the 4X100 relay.

Jhuvan Jehn Baculot registered a double gold in the high and long jump, while Elyzza Mae Salinas grabbed a gold medal in the 400m hurdles.

Kent Edwin Abellanosa and Leigh Erika Villanueva also scored a double gold in the table tennis event.

In the elementary level, Unit 7 also stayed on top with an improved standing of 29 golds, 21 silvers and 25 bronze medals. Trailing are Unit 4 (20-8-16) and Unit 8 (13-19-13) for the second and third place, respectively.

Meanwhile, Don Bosco Technology Center grabbed the spotlight yesterday after winning the secondary football title against arch rival Paref-Springdale School via shootout, 5-3.

DBTC fought hard against the reigning Milo National champion Paref-Springdale that resulted in a 1-all draw at the end of regulation.

But DBTC goalkeeper Joseph Kei Ceniza saved the day for DBTC as he deflected Springdales’ Jon Joseph Young’s kick. The Bosconians then sealed the win after Agustin Rafael Roa sinked his shot.

USC-BED also got the gold in the elementary division with a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus.  (FREEMAN)
