Canillas survives knockdown, scores UD win over Labao
CEBU, Philippines – ALA Boxing Gym’s Arjan ‘Spartan’ Canillas 12-0, 9KOs) faced a dangerous challenge but still won impressively via unanimous decision against veteran Rey Labao (27-7, 18KOs) the other night at the Danao Civic Center in Danao City.
It was a real acid test for Canillas as he suffered a second round knockdown courtesy of a strong combination from the former OPBF and PABA title challenger Labao.
But Canillas quickly got up and recovered to continue the fight. He kept his composure and pressured Labao with several shots to the head and body through the rest of the fight.
After 10 rounds of action, Canillas won all three scorecards, 98-91, 97-92 and 96-93.
In the supporting bouts, Victor Vitor hammered a second round KO over Robert Awitin, Vicente Casido and Boyce Sultan fought in an eight round draw as Raul Yu also drew with Richard Sueno in a six round battle. (FREEMAN)
