CEBU, Philippines – Megabond prevailed over CMI, 61-54, in battle of unbeaten teams to grab the solo lead in the Architects+Engineers Basketball Association’s 1st Corporate Cup at the University of San Carlos-Main gym.

Romulo Anino netted 16 points laced with three steals, while Eugene Peteros added 10 markers and five rebounds for Megabond, which rode on a lightning 15-4 attack in the first quarter to dictate the pace of the match the rest of the way.

After closing the first half with a 15-point lead, 31-16, CMI retaliated with a 23-16 run in the third period, but Megabond fought steadier down the stretch to seal the win and stay on top of the heap with a clean 3-0 slate.

Jun Villacorta and Richard Badayos each scored 18 but to no avail as CMI suffered its first loss after posting back-to-back victories.

In the other games, Fenestram defeated Dorma, 75-69, in the first overtime game of the season to improve its win-loss record to 2-1, while Davies Paints subdued Phoenix, 65-58, to snap out of its two-game slump.

Dorma fell to 1-2, while Phoenix stayed winless in three starts. — EBV (FREEMAN)
