USPF’s Ceniza to render community service

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – He has done something bad. He must repay it with goodness.

Jawien Wisdom Ceniza of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers is obliged to do that after he was thrown out of the game for committing two unsportsmanlike fouls in their 64-88 loss to the University of San Carlos Warriors in the 15th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men’s basketball tournament  last Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Ceniza was first whistled for such infraction for intentionally pinning down USC playmaker Giovanni Laguyo in the second quarter. He did it again, this time for clamping down hard both his hands on the fast-breaking Shooster Olago resulting to his ejection at the 5:26 mark of the third period.

Aside from an automatic one-game suspension and a P5,000 fine, Ceniza will also render the first community service of the CESAFI in accordance with the modified sanctions on misbehaving players, coaches and team officials that is instituted by the league for the first time this season.

Ceniza will undergo a four-hour community service under the supervision of Cebu City Sports Commission currently headed by chairman Edward Hayco.

Ceniza will serve his suspension when the Panthers face off with the Southwestern University Cobras this Thursday. He will have to sit out still until such time he will be able to accomplish the one of a kind, yet laudable punishment conceptualized by the league.

And once he returns to the playing court, Ceniza has hopefully gained enough 'Wisdom' to always play with utmost sense of sportsmanship. — EBV (FREEMAN)
