Nietes gets added boost with RING championship belt

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

PARANAQUE CITY, Philippines  — Reigning WBO light flyweight champion Donnie 'Ahas' Nietes got an added boost two days ahead of his title defense after he finally received his RING belt.

The RING title is given by The RING Magazine, considered as the bible of boxing, to lineal world champions in every weight class.

Anson Wainwright of The RING Magazine personally presented the belt to Nietes.

"Syempre it's an added inspiration. Masarap ang feeling na dalawang belt ang hinahawakan at dinedepensahan mo," said Nietes, who is set to defend his twin titles against Mexican challenger Gilberto Parra in the main event of the 'Pinoy Pride 30:D-Day' tomorrow at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

This is an added accolade for Nietes, the No.1 ranked light flyweight by the RING Magazine, who recently shattered the record of the late Gabriel 'Flash' Elorde as the longest reigning Filipino world boxing champion. (FREEMAN)
