Jaboneta bids farewell to SHS-Ateneo

CEBU, Philippines - Felixberto ‘Janjan’ Jaboneta, the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. MVP, was honored during a thanksgiving party as he is one of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles who will graduate this year.

Jaboneta was part of the successful team who won the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) National Championship recently.

Holding back tears while reading a prepared message to his teammates, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons-bound Jaboneta thanked his Magis Eagles’ teammates, the coaching staff and the administration for the support he received all over the years since his rookie year.

He and Jose Piero Dominic Longa will join former Magis Eagle Henry Asilum come July in the UAAP Season 78 where they will also play alongside another Cebuano in Paul Andres Desiderio, who formerly played for the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers.

All other graduating players also sent messages to their teammates in the likes of Longa, Anton Benedict Chua, Nino Araw-araw, Steven Co, Joseph Mayol, College of St. Benilde-bound Adrison Gaviola ang University of SantoTomas-bound Zachary Huang.

The Magis Eagles, celebrating on their 60th year, held a thanksgiving party for a very successful year as the entire Jesuit community cherished the moments of their victory.

 Coach Rommel Rasmo also shared his thoughts for "what a year it was" for the Magis Eagles that he was delivering his message in a broken voice.

The message of SHS-AdC president Fr. Manny Uy, who is also the CESAFI president, was also the most applauded one, especially when he cracked a joke by telling the graduating players that "you can be Maroons (UP), you can be Tigers (UST), and you can be Bulldogs (NU) but please don't be an Archer."

The Archers is the moniker of Ateneo's most bitter rival, De La Salle University.  (FREEMAN)
