Balangauan-Barandog tops Club Filipino President’s Cup
CEBU, Philippines – No threat from typhoon Ruby could stop the tandem of Baltaire Balangauan and Pio Barandog from topping last Saturday’s President’s Cup Golf Tournament of Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu in Pulangyuta, Danao City.
The one day event suffered from the typhoon as several participants, who earlier signed up backed out, but a total of 55 players went ahead and enjoyed the perfect golfing weather.
Balagauan carded five-over-par 76 on the course designed and built by the late peter Chiongbian while his partner, Barandog, shot six-over-par 77.
They combined for 153 strokes to bag the lowest gross honors.
This member-guest year-end tournament allowed members of the club to have a maximum of four teams. The October handicaps were used.
The tandem of Chandran Rama and Bernie Manundan bagged the class A title with an aggregate of net 138 strokes. Rama, who plays with a handicap of 8 carded a gross 12-over-par 83 for a net score of 75. Manundan, handicap 14, had a gross 77 for a net 63.
Runner-up honors went to the tandem of Rama and Vic Arnuco with a combined 141 strokes. Arnuco, who plays with a handicap of 10, turned in a gross four-over-par 75 for a net 65.
In class B, Joel Abella fired a gross 77 en route to a net 62 and combined forces with Boboy Arevalo with a net score of 63 off a gross 83 to shoot a total of 125 strokes and bag the title.
Runner-up honors for the second group went to the pair of Dominic Gotiong (66) and Paolo Alberto (67) with a total of 133 strokes.
The title for class C went to Rene Piano and Edgar Sasuman Jr. Piano scored a net 64 while Sasuman had 66 for a total of 130 strokes.
Runner-up honors went to Joel Abella and his partner Ben Ermac. Abella (62) combined with Ermac (82) for 140 strokes.
The tournament also served as qualification event for the members of the Club Filipino men’s and seniors’ teams to the Philippine Airlines Interclub Golf Tournament set early next year at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City and the Del Monte Golf Club in Bukidnon.
The awards ceremony was held at The Padgett Place Cebu and was hosted by Lito and Fe Barino. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (FREEMAN)
