Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Zamboangueño Armando Magallanes went off to a good start in the penultimate leg of the 2014 Cebuana Lhuillier Age-group Tennis Championships yesterday at the CitiGreen in Barangay Punta Princesa, this city.

Magallanes made it to Cebu before the weather turns bad due to typhoon ‘Ruby’ to hurdle his opening assignment against Cesar Laborte, 10-5, in the first round of the boys 16-under class.

On the other hand, Jan Godfrey Seno came back from training in the US with a 10-2 triumph against Arc Galo.

Five other Cebuanos netters won their first round assignments in the boys' 16 division including Lorenz Steffan Abarquez, Clyde Pollo, Anthony Lu and John Clyde Laquio.

Abarquez defeated Kurt Ivan Cañete, 10-4 while Pollo pulled away a thrilling 10-9 win against John dela Cerna. Christopher Encarnacion silenced Marc Adrian Abanggan, 10-0 while Anthony Lu outsmarted Carcar City's Michael Alduezo, 10-8.

Naga's John Clye Laquio also made his presence felt after clobbering Norman Joseph Enriquez, 10-3.

The first game in the boys 14-under division saw University of the Visayas' Francis Hidalgo scoring a 10-1 victory over John Eyrll Del Rosario.

Aside from the CitiGreen, the action in this Dunlop-co sponsored event goes full blast today also in Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Categories to be played at CitiGreen are the unisex 10-under, boys 12 and all girls  action while the rest will be held at Alta Vista. (FREEMAN)
