CNU is virtual champ in SCUAA meet

CEBU, Philippines -  Host Cebu Normal University is the virtual champion after building a insurmountable lead in the 2014 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Regional Olympics held mainly at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Boasted by their top athletes from three campuses in Cebu including the Balamban in the south and Medellin in the north, CNU already amassed 30 golds, 22 silvers and 22 bronze medals in the first day of the three-day sporting conclave.

Athletes from State Colleges in the region compete in five events including swimming, karatedo, taekwondo, table tennis and the medal-rich athletics.

The top performers in each sporting discipline will represent the region in the National Olympics in Manila.

Behind CNU is Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) with 15 golds, 15 silvers and 11 bronze medals, while Bohol Island State University is currently in the third place with 14-29-25 gold-silver-bronze medal count.

Another Cebu state university, Cebu Technological University (CTU), has two golds, five silvers and 18 bronzes. Siquijor State College is far behind with 2-2-3 tally. (FREEMAN)
