7th qualifying of Cebu Kiddies chessfest slated this weekend

CEBU, Philippines – The seventh qualifying round of the Cebu Kiddies Championship spearheaded by the School of Chess will take place on October 25-26 at the School of Chess, located at second floor of Central Books Building, Door 1 GV Building along P. Del Rosario Street, Cebu City.

International Master Kim Steven Yap, the tournament director, said it's the second to the last qualifying before the grand finals later this year.

Aside from cash prizes, the top two finishers of the 7-round Swiss system competition will advance to the finals set on December 27-29 at the same venue.

The overall champion will receive P5,000 plus an all-expense paid trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for the 17th Dubai Open Chess Championship in April 2015.

For this weekend's event that is sponsored by IM Yee Soon Wei of Brunei, the top finisher will pocket P1,000, while the second to fouth will take home P500, P300, and P200, respectively. The top female player will get an incentive of P200.

Registration fee is pegged at P100 for School of Cebu members and P150 for non-members.
