Tumulak’s late goal lifts USPF past UV
CEBU, Philippines – Lopito Tumulak connected with a goal in the final two minutes of the game to give University of the Philippine Foundation a 1-0 victory over University of the Visayas in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. football event at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.
Tumulak made the winning goal as UV’s goal keeper failed to hold on to the ball out of a lob at the center of the field before it went straight to the net that paved way to USPF’s second straight win in the tournament.
The wards of coach Eleazar Toledo won their opening game last week with a victory over defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos.
USJ-R, however, immediately bounced back yesterday with a 1-0 win against Don Bosco College. Brian Tabuel made the winning goal with seven minutes remaining in the game.
In another collegiate match, The University of Cebu also outsmarted the University of San Carlos, 2-1.
Over at the Aznar Coliseum, defending men’s champion USJ-R and USPF shares the top of the standing after their respective wins in the volleyball event.
USJ-R grabbed a 25-14, 25-19, 25-18 win against Cebu Institute of Technology University for its second win, while USPF overcame a bad start to beat UC, 22-25, 25-16,25-23,25-15.
In the distaff side, USJ-R and Southwestern University also share the top spot with a perfect 2-0 records. USJ-R got its second win at the expense of UC, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16.
SWU also scored a three straight set win over Cebu Doctor’s University, 25-22,25-11, 25-21. (FREEMAN)
