5 Cebuana booters make it to Phl U16 training pool
CEBU, Philippines - Five Cebuana booters moved one step closer to their dream of making it to the Philippine Under-16 team that will see action in the Group D Qualifiers of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U16 Women’s Championship 2015 scheduled on October 4 to 9 in Melaka, Malaysia.
This after Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Arantxa Trebol, Pia Acusar and Itsuko Bacatan and St. Theresa’s College’s Jan Reese Jumawan and Alexa Ceniza were called up to be part of the 30-member training pool that will be held most likely in Manila anytime soon.
“We have the pleasure to inform you that you have been selected to be part of the 30-player training lineup of the Philippine U16 Girls Team that will participate in the AFC U16 Championship 2015 - Group D Qualifiers in Malaysia,” said PPF General-Secretary lawyer Ed Gastanes in a letter to the selected Cebuanas.
There were actually eight Cebuanas coached by SHS-AdC’s Apol Bariñan and STC’s Jingoy Roa who joined the initial tryout in San Carlos earlier, but only five of them made it to the training pool.
However, Cebu Football Association Vice President Rico Navarro said they still don’t have the details regarding the start of the training in the national pool and where it would be staged.
Trebol, Bacatan and Jumawan are not new to the national squad as they formed part of the Phippine team that placed second to Thailand in the ASEAN Under-14 Championships in Vietnam last June. (FREEMAN)
