23rd Erne Jawad Cup set Sep. 20

MANILA, Philippines - It’s all systems go for the 23rd edition of the Erne Jawad Cup table tennis tournament that unfolds on September 20 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

This year’s action features the traditional liha and standard table tennis action.

The standard action includes the boys and girls’under-13 and 18 division, women’s and men’s open action plus the boys’ and girls’ team competition for the under 13. The liha division, on the other hand, will have the singles open and team competition.

Over P50,000 cash prize is at stake plus trophies for the winners in the tournament.

The champion in the men’s team event gets P10,000, while the losing finalist will go home with P5,000 and P3,000 for the third placer.

The winner in the men’s singles open champion will receive P5,000, while the second placer gets P3,000 and the third placer with P1,000.

The annual event is organized by Erne Jawad Memorial Table Tennis Club, Inc. in cooperation with Table Tennis Association of the Philippines (TATAP). The tournament aims at promoting Physical Education and encourage sports programs to foster self-discipline, teamwork and excellence among players for development of a healthy and alert citizenry.

Entry fee in the individual events are pegged at P150. The under-13 team competition’s entry fee is P200, men’s team at P1,000 and P500 for the liha event.

The first 100 registrants will receive a Jawad Cup T-shirt. —(FREEMAN)
