21K added in 4th St. Ignatius Footrace

CEBU, Philippines - A 21K half-marathon will be included in the fourth edition of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Alumni Association-organized St. Ignatius Run, which is scheduled on July 13 at the San Pedro Calungsod Templete in South Road Properties.

“We consider this as a bigger event compared to the previous run we organized because we will be venturing in a half-marathon race,” said Bernard Sia of Batch '89 in a press conference yesterday at Coffee Bean-Ayala. “Through this, we can put a sense of accomplishment not only to the professional runners but also to those alumni who want to test their limits.”

The organizers said the event is also perfect for advance runners who are looking for a peak race in preparation for the Cobra Ironman Philippines 70.3 this August.

Aside from the 21K, the other categories features are the 3K, 6K, 6K tandem (Sacred Heart student or alumni, 12K and 12K relay (Sacred Heart student or alumni).

The organizers are hoping to draw 3,000 entries in the charity race. Proceeds of which will go to Gawad Kalinga, a poverty alleviation and nation-building movement. Gawad Kalinga helps in building homes and schools especially in areas hit by the powerful earthquake and super typhoon last year.

A total of P20,000 in cash prize is at stake for the winners. Foreign runners especially the Kenyans are allowed to join in the open division.

Registration fee is pegged at P700 for 21K, P500 for 12K, P450 for 6K, P400 for 3K, P1, 500 for 12K relay and P800 for the 6K tandem.
