Run for the Rivers slated June 22

CEBU, Philippines – Cebuano runners and fitness buffs will have another chance to help the environment through the Cebu Run for the Rivers on June 22 at SM City-Cebu Northwing grounds.

The event is meant for the reforestation and rehabilitation of the riparian zones particularly the Mahiga Creek and Guadalupe River in the hope of arresting soil degradation and improving green cover. Other areas in Cebu City which also need help are Bulacao, Buhisan, and Lahug.

Aside from the rehabilitation of the rivers, proceeds of the event will also be used to help out come up with an alternative livelihood assistance for dwellers along the river as well as for community organizing, training, and evaluation.

The categories featured in the race are the 21K, 10K, 5K, and 3K.

Registration fee is pegged at P100 for the 3K (bib only). Those who want to get a singlet will have to pay P250 same with the 5K class, while the entry fee in 10K is set at P350 and P500 for the 21K.

Registration forms are available at Toby’s in SM City-Cebu, Runnr in Ayala Center, Cebu City Sports Center, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and Casa Ilongga in Robinsons Place.

Those who will finish the 21K within the three-hour cut-off time will receive a medal, while cash prizes and medals will be given away to the top 10 finishers in the 10K and 21K and the top five under the 5K category.
