USC, Xavier, SHS-Ateneo, UV in semis of CYBL cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - The semifinals cast is set in the Under 12 division of the CYBL VisMin Goodwill Games sponsored by Alaska with University of San Carlos Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu  Xavier University  of Cagayan de Oro and University of the Visayas  making the Final Four after toppling their respective foes in the quarterfinals.

Group A topseed USC Green trounced USC Gold 72-23 at the USC North Gym. At the Lux Oriens Gym of SHS-AdC, Group B top seed SHS-AdC cruised to a 62-17 win over the Ormoc Fighters. XU defeated Cebu Eastern College, 45-33, while UV nipped Ateneo de Iloilo in the division’s closest and most exciting game. USC faces XU, while SHS-AdC plays UV in the semifinals.

In the Under 15 division, USC earned top seeding in Group A with a 74-18 win over Bohol. In other Group A games, Ormoc won over USPF 1, 61-73. CEC stopped Bohol, 65-40 and USPF 1, 60-48, to get into contention for a semifinals slot. Guest team RU Shredder of Bacolod wrapped up its elimination round with a 78-68 win over USC. USC is now assured of the top spot in the group while CEC and Ormoc play for the #2 seeding in Group A.

In Group B games, UV scored a heart-stopping 49-44 win over SHS-AdC to remain undefeated at the top with a 5-0. SHS-AdC tripped Ateneo de Iloilo  50-35. AdI kept its semis hopes alive with a 41-30 win over One on One. USPF 2 ousted DBTC, 65-51. In the team standings, UV is at 5-0, followed by SHS-AdC (4-1), AdI (4-1), USPF 2 (3-2), One on One (2-4), Tagbilaran (0-5) and DBTC (0-5). AdI has to beat UV in its last assignment to create a triple tie for first along with SHS-AdC. (FREEMAN)
