Adlawan, Mangusong top MS Motosuit race in Borbon
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu's pride Jonjon Adlawan and Davaoeño star rider Bornok Mangusong shone the brightest among the top winners during the second leg of the 2014 MS Motosuit Motocross Series billed as the 4th Mayor Butch Sepulveda Motocross Challenge last Sunday in Barangay Lugo, Borbon town north of Cebu.
Adlawan, who already made his mark on the international stage, once again made an impression before his hometown fans on the way to rule the pro open class. He bested Mangusong for the top honors as fellow Cebuano daredevil Venil Abellar settled for third.
It's the other way around in the expert category as Mangusong clinched the coveted title, relegating Adlawan to second place this time. Abella stayed at third.
Jed Luna of Mount Sioan Racing Team stole the show in the open enduro action after edging out Dongkey Sanchez and JP Cuesta, while Clinton Gualiza lorded it over in the local enduro battle. John Allein Cobreros trailed Gualiza as Sanchez, JC Obligado and Alex Abalo occupied the next three spots.
It was actually a golden double for Jed Luna as he also topped the beginners open followed by JP Cuesta and Denmar Supatan. He added feathers on his cap by finishing second in the novice open production won by Jougie Basco.
In the intermediate division, Wensor Pamorca came out as the fastest followed by John Flores and Jougie Basco.
Dexter Bacabac led the top three finishers in the executive A together with James Duroy and Siegfred Ornopia, while the three best-placed riders in both the executive B and C were James Duroy, Siegfred Ornopia, and Roscel Gungob.
The multi-titled BJ Pepito dominated the mini class 88cc. He outclassed Leonardo Angelo for the top post as Brylle Ornopia, Gyle Aguilar, and Paul Steven Colizar made it to the top five.
Aside from Brylle, two other nephews of race organizer and MS Motosuit big boss Lou Ornopia also stamped their respective classes. Ken Kerry Ornopia took home the champion's trophy in the peewee 50cc after defeating Edwin Chan Dilao and Renier Cabras, while Keizer Ornopia finished second to Lloyd Abrenica in the mini class 65cc.
RK Cuesta grabbed part of the spotlight after seizing the ladies crown. She outlasted the equally-talented Janica Adlawan as Mariel Villafuerte ended up third.
On the other hand, the Magic Five in the underbone race is made up of Gualiza Clinton, Allain Cobreros, JR Gualiza, Wenmar Salde, and Raymund Alivio.
Backstopped by the local government of Borbon, the one-day joust that drew over a hundred riders from all over the country was made possible through the suppport of Mount Sioan Racing Team, Dodong Baguiz, Jed Luna, and Gingoog City.
Exciting highlights of the race will be telecast over CCTN 47 every Saturday from 10:30 to 11 a.m., with replays every Sunday from 10:30 to 11 o'clock in the evening.
After Borbon, the series shifts to Toledo City for the third leg on June 2 and then in Dinagat Island for the fourth leg on June 18. — EBV
