Cebu teams roll into crossover semifinals

CEBU, Philippines - Defending men’s national champion University of the Visayas  and two other Cebu squads advanced to the crossover round of the 2014 Nestea Beach Volleyball-Battle of the Champions in Boracay this morning.

UV along with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation  men’s team moves up to the next round after winning in their respective assignments yesterday while Southwestern University also marched to the next round.

UV’s Jade Becaldo and neophyte partner Mark Anthony Fernandez survived a thrilling three-set match against fellow Cebuanos Rommel Pepito and Relan Taneo of SWU to move up to the crossover round, 19-21,21-19,15-12.

 USPF represented by Edmar Bonono and Edward Ybanez came up with a convincing 21-15,21-14 over Mindanao State University to join UV in the next round.

In the distaff side, SWU of Therese Rae Ramas and Florimel Rodriguez tandem posted a 21-15,21-11 triumph over University of St. La Salle’s Patty Jane Orendain and Katya Grabato to advance to the next round. (FREEMAN)
