Aboitiz Football Cup UC-BRO snare men’s open title
CEBU, Philippines - The University of Cebu-BRO Nationals beefed up by Nigeran booters beat the Leylam FC, 4-1, to snare the men’s open crown of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City the other night.
The UC-BRO Nationals were simply too much for Leylam as the Nigerian booters used their advantage in speed and explosiveness to overwhelm the players of Leylam.
Modey Mathias connected the team’s first goal at the 12th minute as the halftime ended, 1-0.
Eneazibataram Famous adds a goal for UC-BRO, followed by Louis Cortes who stretched their lead to, 3-0 in the 54th minute. Salec Bahernzadegan saved Leylam from a goalless defeat with a goal in the 55th.
Anthony Iheppiota put the nail in the coffin to Leylam as he scored the fourth and final goal for UC-BRO in the 65th minute of the game.
Coach Ramos describes the 16th edition of the Aboitiz Football Cup as his best year in the history of the Cebu Football Association (CFA)—organized event as aside from the men's open; he also bagged the under-23 earlier and the boys 18-under division.
Ramos’ under-18 division bets in Don Bosco Technology Center escaped with a 4-3 penalty shootout win against Paref-Springdale FC.
"This is the best year ever for me in the history of the Aboitiz Football Cup as a coach with three titles under me. Prayers and preparations really worked well for us,†said Ramos.
On the other hand, dethroned champion Queen City United ended their campaign with a third place finish in the men’s open with a 3-0 triumph against Samba FC.
In the 38-above class, JEH United secured the title with as they beat KN Ferraren, 3-1 in the penalty shootout. — (FREEMAN)
