After swimming, CIS bets stamp classes in football

CEBU, Philippines - Inspired by their swimming success last Saturday, the Cebu International School bets again banked on their homecourt advantage to clinch two titles and three runner-up trophies in football event of this year's CIS Kyle Weckman and James Jung Memorial Friendship Cup over the weekend at the school's campus in Brgy. The spirited CIS booters bagged the mixed under-7 crown after earning 12 points, beating Consolacion FC by two points in this league-type action.

CIS then showed girl power as it upended Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the penalty shootout, 1-0, to snare the girls 18-under tiara. 

SHS-AdC, however, did not go home empty-handed as it grabbed the girls 14 plum with a superior output of 10 points.

CIS also took first runner-up honors in the under-11, boys 15 and boys 18 age groups.

Giuseppe and Barili FC lorded it over in the under-11 and boys 15 categories, respectively, after edging out host CIS both via a 3-2 cliffhanger.

Leylam FC had its share of the spotlight after whipping CIS, 2-0, to rule the boys 18 division, thanks to the efforts of Luis Garciano.

Like CIS, Warshockz also came up with a double championship. It bested Consolacion FC, 2-1, in the mixed under-11 final then crushed St. Thomas, 3-0, to top the boys 13 side.

In the inter-company battle, Makoto FC reigned supreme after eking out a 2-1 win over Leylam, while Don Bosco Alumni dominated the men's open action with a 2-0 shutout of the Cebu Amateur Football Club.

In the ladies open, the University of San Carlos emerged as the brightest squad  after it prevailed over Brainbos, 1-0, in their gold medal match. (FREEMAN)
