USC in CYBL Under 10 finals
CEBU, Philippines - After a long break, topseed University of San Carlos (USC) shook off the rust and barged into the championship round in the Under 10 division of the CYBL D-League 2013 with a 43-27 thrashing of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R), 43-27, at the Magis Eagles Arena of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu. The U10 Warriors will face idle SHS-Ateneo de Cebu for the title.
Games of the CYBL D-League shifted into high gear with playoff games after taking an unexpected but momentary break when the earthquake hit the Central Visayas on October 15 until the recovery period from super typhoon Yolanda last month. Most of the elimination round games were completed when the twin catastrophe struck.
In Passerelle division playoffs, Blessed John Seminary 1 (BJS 1) stopped SHS-AdC B, 65-52, while USC South-B ousted USC North-B, 56-40. Pre-tourney favorite University of the Visayas-B (UV) halted USJ-R, 55-35, and SHS-AdC-C eliminated USC South-C, 61-54. UV-B now faces BJS 1, while USC South B goes up against SHS-AdC C in the semifinals.
In the quarterfinal playoff games of the SBP division, Don Bosco-B stunned erstwhile undefeated topseed USC North-B, 52-45. SHS-AdC-B ousted USJ-R-B, 56-27. Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion-Mandaue (CIC-M) faces USC South-C in the remaining quarterfinal game.
The first semifinals match-up sees SHS-AdC-B and USC South-B facing off against each other. Don Bosco-B will play the winner of the game between USC South-C and CIC-M.
The CYBL D-League is the second tier league or Division B of the Cebu Youth Basketball League. Some 34 teams saw action and it is held in cooperation with venue partners SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, USC, USJ-R, DBTC, CIC-Mandaue and Virgen de las Pias Escuelas School. Games were moved to the Canduman campus of SHS-AdC since the school’s Mango campus gym is being used for relief operations. (FREEMAN)
