Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Jan Godfrey Seno of the University of San Carlos (USC) became the lone Cebuano double gold medallist in the  PSC-PHILTA Junior Tennis Championships, which came to a close yesterday at the CITCI-Consolacion Tennis Club courts in Laray, Consolacion.

Seno pulled off a hard-earned 6-3, 7-5 victory over Manuel Balce to rule the boys 16 category.

After a short rest, the pride of Bogo City north of Cebu came up with a masterful 6-2, 6-1 demolition of  Clyde Bienes to snare the boys 18 crown.

Jace Onto, on the other hand, silenced Cesar Kristofer  Salimbangon, 6-1, 6-0  claim the boys 12 title.

Salimbangon, however, did not go home empty-handed as he and partner John David Velez reigned supreme in the 10-under doubles.

Cesar Kristofer's older sister Kristine Renee Salimbangon, for her part, bowed to fellow Cebuana Zethley Mae Alferez in the girls 14 finals, 6-0, 6-4.

The visiting Erika Manduriao went away with two singles titles and one in the doubles event.

Manduriao slammed Jana Pages, 6-1, 6-1 to lord it over in the girls 16 division, then whipped  Dominique Ong, 6-2, 6-1 to grab the girls 18 tiara. She later teammed up with Hanna Espinosa in winning the girls 18 doubles plum.

Mariel Villa and John David Velez topped their respective divisions. Villa shone the brightest player in the girls 12, while John David Velez subdued Eric Longaquit, 6-0, 6-2 to rule the unisex 10-under class.

Clyde John Laquio broke the heart of Francis Lambayan, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the boys 14 final.

The rest of the gold medallists in the doubles event were Bahonsua and Villa in the girls 14, Balce and Dale Estonillo in the boys 14 and Bienes and Bryan Mangapis in the boys 18. (FREEMAN)
