CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos (USC) bested the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) to book a finals ticket in girls volleyball event of the 13th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc (CESAFI) season the other day at the Aznar Coliseum.
USC drubbed USJ-R, 26-24, 19-25, 26-24, thereby avoiding a triple tie with USJ-R and Southwestern University (SWU) at the end of the semifinal round.
The Carolinians take the overall lead with 2-0 win-loss record, followed by SWU in the second spot with 2-1. USJ-R had an unceremonious semifinals exit this time winning only one of its two assignments, while Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu bowed out with a 0-2 record.
With that, SWU now has two finals ticket in the CESAFI volleyball with the Lady Cobras earlier securing their own ticket opposite Cebu Doctor's University (CDU).
A finals preview in the women's division saw SWU taking away a three-straight set win, 25-23,25-16 25-17.
Others though felt CDU can do an upset in their best-of-three championships series, but SWU are also hoping to pull off some surprise. — (FREEMAN)
