Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Team Singwangcha boxers won all of their five bouts in an impressive fashion in the 1st Congresswoman Doc Anne Pernes Cup the other day at the Siquijor Capital Square.

Fighting under the tutelage of the eagle-eyed Cebuano trainer Brix Flores of the Noy Pacing Flores stable,  Melmark Dignos, Bryan Samson, Joey Canoy, Ardie Boyose and Neil John Tabanao all showed their punching wares as they dispatch their respective foes.

Former amateur standout Dignos (2-0) started Team Singwangcha’s night with a unanimous decision victory over Jeyseber Abcede (0-1) in their four-round light flyweight showdown.

Samson also made an impression in front of his hometown folks (4-3, 2KOs) as he needed one round to force Jomar Ministerio (5-6, 2KOs) into submission.

Canoy (4-0, 3KOs) made it 3-0 for Team Singwangcha after scoring another knockout win in the fourth round over Jherald Tuyor (2-15, 1KO) in their minimum weight bout.

Boyose (8-0, 5KOs) connected with a vicious right uppercut to knocked out Jesse Tuyor (6-12, 3KOs) in the 2:28 mark of the second round, while Tabanao (5-0, 4KOs) also extended his unbeaten streak with another short knockout victory against journeyman Elmar Francisco (16-20, 4KOs)

The slambang card was presented by Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha and Rex "Wakee" Salud Promotions International in partnership with Rajah Lapu-Lapu Promotions and the provincial government of Siquijor.

The event is among the highlights of the annual fiesta celebration of Siquijor in honor of its beloved patron St. Francis of Assisi. (FREEMAN)
